ST. CHARLES, IL – The Kane County Republican Central Committee strongly condemns the recent partisan action taken by newly elected Elgin Township Supervisor Vern Tepe, who removed respected community leader Maggie Beyer from her role as Chair of the Elgin Township Committee on Seniors.
In her more than four years of service—three as Chair—Beyer earned widespread admiration for her leadership and innovation in delivering senior-focused programs. Her initiatives included the popular “Discuss and Discover” speaker series, Narcam training, AARP-sponsored disaster preparedness and home safety programs, personal visits and holiday outreach to nursing homes, and a complete redesign of the Township’s RFP application process to more effectively evaluate funding applicants.
Despite these accomplishments, Supervisor Tepe, a Democrat, contacted Beyer even before taking office and asked her to resign. When she declined, Tepe convened a Special Board Meeting on May 29, 2025, solely to vote on rescinding her appointment—without providing any specific reason.
“Maggie’s performance has been exemplary,” said former Elgin Township Supervisor Ken Bruderle in a statement. “Her dedication to serving Elgin Township seniors has won her the support and admiration of everyone. Vern’s vindictive and partisan move should draw all our attention and intense anger.”
The meeting drew a large crowd of Beyer’s supporters, who publicly praised her service. During a closed session, an attorney representing the Township requested a private conversation with Beyer and suggested delaying the vote until a later meeting with less public presence. Beyer declined, stating that the people who came to support her deserved to witness the outcome. Ultimately, Tepe and the Democrat-majority Board voted to remove her—without citing cause.
Although no official reason was given, many believe the decision was politically motivated. As Committee Chair, Beyer had advocated for distributing funds more equitably across multiple senior organizations. One of Tepe’s preferred groups, the Senior Service Association, received $326,000 out of a possible $400,000 in RFP grants under the previous budget (total budget is $502,000). Beyer and her committee recommended a more balanced allocation to serve a broader range of seniors throughout the Township.
“Maggie Beyer was removed from her position as Chairperson of the Senior Services Committee for purely political reasons, and it’s a true loss for our community,” said former Trustee Eric Stare. “For the past four years, Maggie’s civic devotion to our seniors and her tireless commitment to serving others has been nothing short of exemplary. She consistently went above and beyond, and her leadership will be deeply missed.”
Kane County GOP Chairman Andro Lerario also issued a strong statement of support:
“I have worked with Maggie on the Kane County Republican Central Committee, and she is an outstanding, compassionate woman with a strong sense of fiscal responsibility.
Her removal is not just a partisan attack—it’s a disservice to the seniors of Elgin Township, who benefited immensely from the programs she initiated and the thoughtful way she managed public resources.
The GOP stands firmly behind public servants like Maggie who are committed to real service—not politics. We call on all residents of Elgin Township to stand up and speak out against this kind of petty partisanship that only harms the people who need our help most.”
The Kane County Republican Party remains committed to supporting ethical, community-driven leadership at every level of government.
