There are grave concerns regarding the proposed high-density mega development at Charles Farm, as discussed during the recent St. Charles Planning Commission meeting. The media has reported on several critical points and it is clear that this proposal remains highly unpopular among many community members for legitimate reasons, including the devastating impact it would have on surrounding neighborhoods.
A significant issue, which was only lightly touched upon by the media, is the fact that two-thirds of the proposed one thousand single-family homes would be assigned to Geneva schools. What is particularly troubling is the absence of representation from Geneva School District 304, Geneva Mayor Burns or the Geneva City Council at this critical discussion. The implications of this development will invariably result in increased taxes for every Geneva household, and as residents, we deserve to have our voices heard and considered in these matters.
It is disheartening to see that either we were not invited to participate, or our city leadership did not prioritize protecting our rights by demanding our inclusion. This marks the second instance in one week where our elected officials have seemingly disregarded the foundational principles of our democracy.
The rights to free speech and assembly, as well as the principle of no taxation without representation, are being undermined by the actions of Kane County Board Chair Pierog and leaders from St. Charles and Geneva. The erosion of these rights not only threatens the core values of our democracy but also poses a significant risk to our individual and civil liberties.
We must hold our elected leadership accountable to their constitutional duties and ensure that the voices of all constituents are heard. It is clear that our confidence in those who were elected to serve and uphold the values that we cherish was unwarranted. We must be the catalyst for change to protect the democratic principles that allow our community to thrive.
It essential to remember the empowering tools our Founders bestowed upon us – our right to vote. Voting is not just a privilege; it's our voice and an opportunity to shape our destiny. Be part of the change, vote this November.
